Disability Plans

Protection if you are unable to work

The Lab offers employees both a short-term and long-term disability plans through MetLife. These income protection plans are 100 percent paid by the Lab and can be used when you are unable to work due to illness or injury.

Short-term disability (employer paid)

This coverage pays a benefit of 100% of your base salary, for the first 7 weeks, then the benefits reduces to 60% for the remaining benefit period. Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in this coverage. The premiums for short-term disability are paid for by the Lab. 

Long-term disability (employer paid)

This disability coverage pays up to a maximum of $15,000 per month for disabilities exceeding 26 weeks. Enrollment for this plan is also automatic.
